Zimbabwe Constitution Committee denies setting presidential term

The Zimbabwe Constitution Committee has denied to setting the Presidential age to 70 years of age. Many Zimbabweans have hoped that the new constitution will take into consideration their wishes to bar persons over 70 years from the presidential seat and reduce the ruling period to two terms. It seems to me that the nation is seeking change with the hopes that the new constitution will consider that. It seems this has been considered by the public in a bid to end the dictatorship syndrome that is evident in most African countries. Is it because the nation is fed up with the current government with the hope that the Constitution will bring a new future? Will this wish guarantee that the next government be transparent as the one before. Either this, the main focus is that the people of Zimbabwe are fed up with dictatorship and wish that the future rulers will not dictate on them. Although this is what most Zimbabweans want, it is not the issue on the ground. Recent media reports speculate that this has been done but according to the Select Committee Co-Chairman Edward Mkhosi of the Movement for Democratic Change, they are still reviewing the constitution! So those who were hoping for this do not get your hopes up high the draft is still being considered, for now cross your fingers and hope that this will be done.

  1. As it has happened in Egypt, Lybia to mention a few, Zimbabwe will also get to a point where the rights and the views of the people will be taken into consideration. So yes the syndrome of dictactorship has to end and, as you said lets hope this will bring a new future.
